Even tone. Radiant skin.
If sunspots, redness, or uneven pigmentation are dulling your complexion, IPL Photofacial treatments can restore clarity, balance, and radiance to your skin — without surgery, without significant downtime, and without compromising your busy schedule. At Aura Aesthetics & Wellness in Greenville, SC, we use advanced intense pulsed light technology to target discoloration at the source and reveal the brighter, more even skin underneath.
IPL stands for intense pulsed light — a broad-spectrum light treatment that targets pigment and vascular irregularities in the skin. Unlike a laser, which uses a single wavelength of light, IPL delivers multiple wavelengths simultaneously, allowing it to address both pigmentation concerns and redness in the same treatment session.
The light energy is absorbed by the melanin in dark spots and the hemoglobin in blood vessels, causing them to break down and be naturally eliminated by the body over time. The result is a more even, clearer complexion with improved tone, reduced redness, and a natural radiance that’s difficult to achieve with skincare products alone.
IPL Photofacial is one of the most versatile skin treatments available. At our Greenville, SC med spa, we use it to address:
IPL also stimulates collagen production as a secondary benefit, meaning your skin doesn’t just look more even — it gradually becomes smoother, firmer, and more youthful with each treatment.
One of the great advantages of IPL Photofacial is its versatility across treatment areas. We commonly treat:
Sun damage doesn’t stop at the face — and neither do we. Many clients treat their face, neck, and chest together for a uniformly refreshed, even-toned appearance.
Both IPL and lasers use light energy to improve the skin, but they work differently and are suited to different concerns. Lasers use a single, precise wavelength targeting one specific issue at a time. IPL uses a broad spectrum of wavelengths, allowing it to address multiple concerns — pigmentation and redness — simultaneously in one session.
IPL is an excellent choice for patients with diffuse sun damage, rosacea, and overall uneven tone who want comprehensive improvement across the skin rather than treatment of one isolated concern. For deeper concerns like significant wrinkles, scarring, or severe skin laxity, laser resurfacing may be a better fit. During your consultation, Mandy will recommend the right treatment — or combination of treatments — for your specific goals.
Your IPL Photofacial at Aura Aesthetics & Wellness begins with a thorough skin consultation. We’ll assess your skin tone, the nature of your pigmentation concerns, and your medical history to confirm IPL is the right treatment for you and customize your settings accordingly.
Before treatment: You’ll be asked to avoid sun exposure, tanning, and certain skincare products in the weeks leading up to your session. A clean, un-tanned complexion allows the IPL to target pigment in the spots rather than the surrounding skin.
During treatment: A cool gel is applied to the skin and protective eyewear is worn throughout. The IPL handpiece delivers rapid pulses of light across the treatment area. Most clients describe the sensation as a quick snap or mild warmth — similar to a rubber band against the skin. A full-face treatment typically takes 20–30 minutes.
After treatment: Some redness and mild warmth in the treated area is normal immediately after the session and typically resolves within a few hours. Pigmented spots may temporarily darken and appear more pronounced — this is a completely normal and expected response known as “peppering.” Over the following 1–2 weeks, those darkened spots will flake away, revealing the clearer skin beneath. There is minimal downtime, and most clients return to their normal activities the same day.
Results: Most clients notice a visible improvement in skin tone and clarity within 1–2 weeks of their first treatment, with continued improvement after each subsequent session.
Most clients achieve optimal results with a series of 3–5 treatments spaced 3–4 weeks apart. The exact number depends on the severity of your concerns, your skin type, and your goals. After completing your initial series, periodic maintenance treatments — typically once or twice a year — help preserve your results and keep sun damage from returning.
Consistency is key with IPL. Each treatment builds on the last, progressively improving tone, clarity, and texture for cumulative results that keep getting better.
IPL Photofacial requires careful patient selection, precise settings, and clinical expertise to deliver safe, effective results — especially on varied skin tones. At Aura Aesthetics & Wellness, every IPL treatment is performed by Mandy, a PA-C with over 15 years of medical experience.
